Message from Chairman
The 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, also known as COP 10, will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, in October 2010. Thousands of participants from around the world, including government representatives, will meet to discuss ongoing and emerging issues in each country, seek feasible solutions, develop an international framework, and explore other effective strategies for the conservation of biodiversity. This conference promises to be profoundly significant for both current and future generations.
To provide full support for this important conference, Aichi-Nagoya, the venue of COP 10, established the Aichi-Nagoya COP 10 CBD Promotion Committee ("COP 10 Promotion Committee") in September 2008 in cooperation with local authorities, businesses, NGOs, and other organizations. The COP 10 Promotion Committee is coordinating with the Japanese government and leading a regional effort to promote a wide range of initiatives for the meeting.
Our region has considerable experience in the management of international events such as Expo 2005 AICHI, JAPAN, the world exposition held on the theme of "Nature’s Wisdom" that attracted more than 22 million visitors from around the world. The region is also an international manufacturing hub and has developed advanced environmental technologies. The COP 10 Promotion Committee is committed to focusing these regional strengths, promoting a wide range of local attractions, and working with the community to ensure the resounding success of COP 10.
